Arriving at Halong Bay - Van Don Airport
The new Van Don International Airport serves as a convenient way to reach the world famous site of Ha Long Bay in the Quang Ninh Province of Vietnam.
Prior to the launch of the airport, tourists interested in reaching Ha Long Bay would need to fly to Hanoi and, from there, take a shuttle bus on a long 7 hour journey to Ha Long Bay.
The arrival of this new airport means that international travelers can cut down on travel time and fly directly to Ha Long Bay. The Van Don International Airport is situated around 50km (31m) away from Ha Long Bay.
The new Ha Long – Van Don Expressway, which started operation in December 2018, connects Ha Long Bay to the airport. This new expressway has cut the journey time from the airport to a mere 50 minutes.
All visitors to the new Van Don Airport will receive free bus tickets to Ha Long Bay City (as well as Tu Long Bay and Yen Tu). The tickets are valid for 30 days from the date of he flight.
There are two public shuttle buses – 14A and 14B that each runs every 90 minutes between the airport and Ha Long Bay City.
The 14A shuttle bus takes a 55km route that ends in Công Viên Hoa Hạ Long at Lê Thánh Tông, P. Bạch Đằng, Tp. Ha Long. The 14B shuttle bus takes a 72km route that ends in the Sunworld Complex, Ha Long.
Of course, for those who do not wish to take a bus, there is the option of taking a taxi.
For the more adventurous souls who wish to hire a car themselves, there is a car hire service at the Van Don International Airport. The international car rental company, Tipoa, runs this car hire service at the airport.
